Main Memory This area of the organisation stores information and instructions. The information or data is stored in binary. This is a number system that is used throughout the Percy Processor organisation. The main memory area contains many different memory locations. Each location, or place, can store 8 binary digits (bits ) of data. Memory is measured in bytes and 1 byte is equal to 8 bits. A binary digit can only be 1 or 0. The main memory has two different types of memory called Random Access Memory and Read Only Memory. |
Memory Brothers The different areas of memory are looked after by ROMbo and RAMbo respectively. ROMbo and RAMbo, two 8 bit wonders, are known affectionately by the other characters in the organisation as the 'Memory Brothers'. |
ROMbo, the meaner of the two, will only give out the same information or instructions - but he never forgets even after being switched off! Try the exercise - ROMorRAM
